What kinds of documentation are necessary for making a cutaway of a machine?
For simple cutaways it is enough to have photographs, for those more complicated which are of higher technical and informational value it is appropriate to get acquinted with the 3D model of the relevant groups - like e.g. weldments and moulds with cuts. It is sufficient to have those in the form of exported pictures.
How long does it take to make a cutaway?
Our company has long time experience with making cutaways of machines, which is a guarantee of shortest possible times of delivery for our customers. Depending on the size and number of details the time needed for making a cutaway ranges from 80 hours for A3 format with low detail to 250 hours for A0 with the highest detail. However, it is necessary to evaluate the times needed for the production on case-to-case basis.
We have a 3D model of a machine in a 3D CAD construction software - it is sufficient to make the cover transparent or remove it partly and we have our own cutaway. Why should we need a cutaway from your company?
Construction 3D programmes are used for making 3D models, drawing documentation and other files needed for production of a machine product.
Making a cutaway in these programmes is not possible for the following reasons:
Models of purchased parts such as the motor and hydraulic devices are available for the constructor in the form of inanimate geometry - .iges, which are often very simplified because there is a tendency to keep the size of the file for the set as small as possible which causes numerous "tearings" in the surfaces. This fact makes them inappropriate for commercial and training purposes.
Furthermore, it is very difficult to choose the right sketching planes for creating cuts in the given view of the picture - a task which takes a lot of time even for a skilled user and which serves the given picture only and is thus unnecessary for the production documentation.
33D programmes usually work in RGB colour mode, however, you need to have pictures in CMYK colour mode for commercial and training purposes which can be easily printed. Colours in general are among the weaknesses of such programmes, e.g. for crome and metallic parts there is no room for highlighting them, which makes the model appear solid and inattractive.
We work with the real colours of a complete machine which has been photographed. We do not need a 3D model or drawings which carry the construction information for making a cutaway.
We would like to introduce a model together with its cutaway at the same time. We do not have a 3D CAD programme and, of course, we have no photographs of a complete machine. Are you able to make a cutaway of the machine under such circumstances and that so, that it will be ready at the same time as the prototype or even sooner, so that we can print the pictures?
DSX, as one of the few graphic studios worldwide, is able to make a cutaway even under such conditions. And that even when there are only 2D drawings at the disposal, which have only one dimension for every view.
Which graphic software do you use?
We use Corel and Adobe products.
In what form do the customers obtain the products of technical graphics?
The customer will obtain a CD-ROM with a picture in RGB and CMYK colour modes, a picture file in .tiff and .jpg format in at least 300 dpi quality. On demand, you can get posters of appropriate size.
What is the difference between commercial cutaways and pictures used for training?
The commercial pictures with highlighted interior arrangement are used to attract the public and show the technology inside. Pictures for training are used to show the functionality which means that simpler depiction is prefered to perfect but complicated graphics. These two types - cutaways and pictures for training (schematic images) can be combined very well together.
